The Kensington: Kensington

COMPLETED 2011 | FOX JOHNSTON ARCHITECTS

Located on a busy arterial, the building takes the form of an L-shaped volume orientated north to embrace a lush garden courtyard. Central to the design is the provision of this 'pocket park' - protected from the street and allowing light and breezes to filter through apartments. To the south, along the streetscape, sits the communal walkways/breezeways and lobby spaces, enabling all apartments to face due north away from the street noise. These breezeways offer multiple purposes - a noise buffer, protection from prevailing southerlies as well as ventilation plenums to provide 100% of apartments with cross ventilation. Lobby spaces open up to both north and south aspects, providing breeze, sunlight and garden aspect at every level.
