Mosman Townhouse: Mosman
COMPLETED 1998 | EMILI FOX
The project response involved grafting a compact two-storey masonry structure onto and into the shell of an existing 1930s building, accessed via a laneway. A bedroom and bathroom is at the lower level, with a freestanding storage unit defining the entry space. The kitchen, housed in the original shell is at the mid level, leading to an upper level living and dining area opening onto a deck. Joinery between the spaces is permeable providing a visual and physical connection between spaces. A timber screen on the deck obscures an unsightly 1960s red brick building opposite, orientating views north-west towards the neighbour's garden. An elongated light slot penetrates the living area, with a battened skylight over the stair bringing light into the landing and bathroom below.
