Kensington House: Kensington
COMPLETED 2007 | FOX JOHNSTON ARCHITECTS
Located on a level block in a conservation area of Kensington, the brief required additional living space for a young couple. A single storey masonry addition was grafted onto the existing 1930s house, embracing a large garden courtyard. The roof of the new addition lifts up to the north to allow sun filtration throughout the space. Bathroom and laundry amenities were inserted into the remnants of the old house servicing both old and new. A studio space at the rear to be built at a later stage - is designed to be read as a continuation of this living wing, connecting garden spaces and embracing the northerly aspect.
2010 - Winner - Residential Architecture Award - Alterations and Additions NSW AIA
