Emmaline and Cook Park Amenities

COMPLETED 2018 | FOX JOHNSTON ARCHITECTS

The Emmaline Amenities building stands as a robust, and at the same time permeable object in the expansive landscape of sea and park landscape of Cook Park, south of Sydney. The new amenities block is the latest addition to a series Fox Johnston has designed for the Council, dotted along the Cook Park foreshore. These buildings successfully challenge the archetype of a sleazy seaside amenities block, replacing dilapidated 50’s and 60s structures with clean, lightfilled sculptural forms clad in recycled timber battens, with faceted concrete walls and natural light. As do the earlier buildings, Emmaline Amenities is designed to be self sufficient year-round. It uses recycled materials, rainwater harvesting and solar access, and carries through the series’ materiality of timber, concrete and steel.
