Birchgrove House: Birchgrove

COMPLETED 2008 | FOX JOHNSTON ARCHITECTS

Located in a conservation area on the Ballast Point Peninsula, the project brief requires additional space for a growing family of four. A single storey wing is inserted into the rear embracing a central courtyard. A permeable bridge floats over an elongated pond and connects old and new. This new 'living' wing provides separation from sleeping spaces in the old shell – its roof manipulated to allow northern light to penetrate the space.
